Europejska Stolica Kultury: czynnik ludzki. Reaching OUT & looking IN

European Capital of Culture: the human factor. Reaching OUT & looking IN

On February 8 and 9, together with the representation of Polish cities that took part in the competition for the title of European Capital of Culture 2029, we took part in accessibility workshops led by expert Agata Etmanowicz.

Agata Etmanowicz (Impact Foundation) created the concept of programs with audience development at the base for the European Capitals of Culture (for Wrocław 2016, Kaunas 2022), in the area of accessibility for Trenčín 2026, and also cooperated with other Capitals of Culture, including: Kosice 2013 and Rijeka 2020, currently working, among others, with Ceske Budejovice (ECO 2028).

We met in a wide group - not only the finalists of the competition (Bielsko-Biała, Katowice, Kołobrzeg, Lublin), but all those who have started efforts processes (12 cities in total) and do not want to stop them, but on the contrary - use the energy that drives communities preparing ECoC applications for the development of cities through culture. Accessibility is a key issue for everyone designing events and cultural offers - the main reason for not participating in culture is invariably exclusion. Over the course of two days, we learned about interesting examples of the tools that European Capitals of Culture use to build their audiences in an inclusive way. We wish all cities that participated in the training fruitful use of the tools they learned!
