citizen shorts

Over 300 high school students from Bielsko-Biała and the region took part in the Conference of Young Citizen Journalists at the Auditorium Maximum of the University of Bielsko-Biała. The event was a summary of the Citizen Shorts project and at the same time part of the international two-day scientific conference Citizen Journalism: Theory – Practice – Education.

First, specialists talked about the Civic Shorts project, and then the youth presented the effects of their several months of design work. These effects are socially engaged films/reels; young people themselves chose topics important to them and relevant to local society. So it was about depression, climate change, environmental pollution, generational differences, the war in Ukraine, drugs at school, but also about local issues: youth in the theater, an overloaded education system, the importance of music in human life, the influence of other people's words on our lives. or simply the poor condition of a residential road.

The works of young people made a huge impression on the audience - peers, journalists, lecturers.

The rest of the conference was filled with lectures and workshops on citizen journalism for future students and the role of the media ecosystem in civil society.

Civic Shorts were implemented jointly by the University of Bielsko-Biała and the Regional Teacher Training Center WOM in Bielsko-Biała and Punkt 11 as part of the Citizen Journalism for Regional Development project.
