How can culture support our mental health?

On November 14-15, the international conference "Culture for Health and Well-being" will take place in Bielsko-Biała in Poland. The event, organized in collaboration with Culture Action Europe, the leader of the Culture and Health platform, will bring together experts, artists, and professionals from the cultural and health sectors to explore how culture and the arts can support physical, mental, and social health.

Research shows that participation in cultural events and artistic activities has a significant impact on well-being, reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and enhancing emotional coping skills. Additionally, culture plays a key role in social integration, enabling the exchange of experiences and the building of lasting connections. Artistic activities like dance or theater positively affect physical fitness by combining movement with creativity. They also serve as an essential tool for supporting people in crisis, including forcibly displaced people, allowing the expression of difficult emotions and helping to rebuild identity and self-esteem.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest research and practices from across Europe, as well as attend workshops and panel discussions on youth mental health, crisis support, and helping those particularly vulnerable to stress. Key policymakers, leaders in culture and health, and representatives from EU institutions will be present, offering a chance to expand knowledge and make important connections.

Participation is free, but prior registration is required.
